### When should I consider Orthodontic Treatment for my child?

If your child is around the ages of 8 years and upwards and starting to show dental problems such as:

- Protruding and bucky teeth
- Overcrowding
- Large gaps
- Crossbites
- Missing teeth
- Speech lisp
- Thumbsucking or finger sucking habits
- Narrow arches and nasal breathing problems

### What's the purpose of early intervention?

Early detection and correction between 8 and 10 years of age usually reduces the need for more complicated treatment later on. In many cases, it reduces the need for dental extractions altogether when they are teenagers. However often a second phase of treatment is required for the best result.

That being said, not all young children with a mix of ‘baby’ and adult teeth require early orthodontic intervention – keeping an eye out for the above issues and discussing them with your trusted Orthodontist will help ensure your child’s bite and smile stays in check.
